A GOOD ROOFING CONTRACTOR IS WORTH HIS WEIGHT IN GOLD!

Posted by on 08/13/2009

There are two components to buying a new roof:

  • The Manufacturer
  • The Installer

The Manufacturer provides the shingle warranty.

  • 30year, 40 year, Lifetime (50 year).
  • This warranty only covers defects in the material.
  • These warranties are prorated over the lifetime of the warranty.
  • These warranties typically don’t cover workmanship or roof leaks.

The Installer provides the workmanship warranty.

  • This warranty should provide that the shingles will be installed in compliance with the Manufacturer’s specifications.
  • This warranty should provide that the shingles are installed to industry standards and in a manner that the roof will not leak.
  • Typically, the longer the workmanship warranty the better the roof job.

If the Installer fails at the roof installation, the manufacturing warranty is in jeopardy.

CONCLUSION: Emphasis should be placed on hiring a reputable installer with good references and tenure.
